Lok Adalat on 11 May

The upcoming 2nd National Lok Adalat in 2024 will be held on 11th May 2024, coordinated by legal services authorities all over the country. This event is being conducted under the guidance of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and will be overseen by Justice Sanjiv Khanna, who serves as a Judge in the Supreme Court of India and also holds the position of Executive Chairman at NALSA.

It has a clear objective of easing the burden on the traditional court system by providing a platform for litigants to resolve their disputes in a friendly manner. It is worth mentioning the remarkable achievements of the National Lok Adalats in the years 2021, 2022, 2023, and the first one in 2024. In 2023 alone, an impressive number of 810.30 lakhs cases were settled, and in the 1st National Lok Adalat of 2024, 171.41 lakhs cases were resolved. These statistics truly emphasize the effectiveness of alternative methods in resolving disputes.

It is set to take place on May 11, 2024, in 20 States/UTs including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Chandigarh, Delhi, Goa, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Punjab, Sikkim, Tripura, and Uttarakhand. However, in the remaining states, the event will be organized after the Lok Sabha Elections.

In accordance with the Legal Services Authorities Act of 1987 and the National Legal Services Authority (Lok Adalats) Regulations of 2009, serve as crucial platforms that provide a swift, cost-effective, and effective alternative for resolving disputes. These Lok Adalats, being legally recognized, aim to settle conflicts amicably, with their decisions being binding and conclusive.

The upcoming event is set to cover a wide range of legal matters, both before and during litigation. This includes various types of cases such as compoundable offences, plea bargaining, revenue cases, bank recovery cases, motor accident claims, cheque bounce cases, labour disputes, and matrimonial disputes (excluding divorce cases). Additionally, it will also address land acquisition cases, IPR or consumer matters, and other civil cases. This inclusive approach is in line with NALSA’s commitment to offering comprehensive legal solutions.
