Chelsea gets a boost with 3-2 victory
Chelsea improved their odds of playing in Europe next season in a thrilling way by scoring two goals in just two minutes to clinch a last-minute 3-2 victory at Nottingham Forest, who are almost guaranteed safety from relegation.
Chelsea, led by Mauricio Pochettino, seemed doomed to lose when Callum Hudson-Odoi scored a beautiful goal for Forest, putting them ahead 2-1 with only 10 minutes remaining. Despite Willy Boly’s goal and Mykhailo Mudryk’s early strike, Chelsea managed to turn the game around with two unexpected goals.
The comeback was ignited by Raheem Sterling’s goal from the edge of the box, followed by Reece James setting up Nicolas Jackson for a header from close range.
Both teams had plenty of drama hitting the woodwork four times in the second half, with Chris Wood managing to produce one of the season’s biggest misses at 1-1, blazing over from just two yards out.
Chelsea’s latest victory has brought them level on points with Newcastle, who are currently in sixth place. Moreover, they have a comfortable three-point lead over Manchester United, thanks to their significantly better goal difference. As the season progresses, the battle for European slots could extend all the way down to seventh place.
In the meantime, Forest still have a three-point advantage over Luton in the last relegation position with only one game remaining. However, the Hatters would have to make up a massive goal difference of 12 on the final day. This means that Nuno Espirito Santo’s team can start preparing for top-tier football in the upcoming season.
