Corey Anderson has been selected to represent the USA in the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup.

Corey Anderson in USA Squad

Corey Anderson, a cricketer who represented New Zealand in the ODI World Cup in 2015 and the T20 World Cup in 2014 and 2016, is set to participate in the 2024 T20 World Cup in June. This time, he will be playing for the USA, who are co-hosting the tournament with the West Indies. Anderson was selected in the squad of 15 on Friday, marking a new chapter in his international cricket career.

Ali Khan, who hasn’t featured in a T20I match since July 2022, has now been included in the team. Alongside him, Shayan Jahangir has also been given an opportunity. However, to accommodate these new additions, Gajanand Singh and Usman Rafiq have been dropped from the squad. Gajanand struggled to make an impact, scoring only one run in two matches against Canada. On the other hand, Rafiq had a tough outing, conceding 24 runs in just two overs during his sole appearance in the series.

Monank Patel and Aaron Jones, who will be leading the team as captain and vice-captain respectively in the upcoming series against Canada, have been confirmed to continue in their roles.

Monank emerged as the top batter for the USA against Canada, scoring an impressive 120 runs in three innings at a strike rate of just under 170. Andries Gous and Steven Taylor also performed well, surpassing the 100-run mark, while Nitish Kumar showcased his skills with a quick 64 off 38 balls in his sole innings. Anderson and Harmeet Singh also contributed valuable runs in their two innings.

On the bowling front, Harmeet and Shadley Van Schalkwyk were the standout performers, each picking up six wickets. Noshthush Kenjige and Saurabh Netravalkar also made significant contributions by taking wickets during the matches.

Ali Khan, having participated in various T20 leagues globally such as the CPL, the PSL, and the ILT20, has only featured in six T20I matches, in addition to his 15 ODI outings. Given his extensive experience, one would expect the selectors to have chosen him for the team.

Jahangir, originally beginning his cricket career in Pakistan, his home country, has participated in 12 ODIs for the USA, with his most recent match being in July of last year.

Milind Kumar, a former Delhi batsman, emerged as the leading run-scorer in the prestigious 2018-19 Ranji Trophy, which is India’s top-notch domestic cricket tournament. He represented Sikkim and his remarkable performance has earned him a well-deserved spot in the squad.

On June 1, the World Cup will kick off with an exciting match between the USA and Canada in Dallas.
