Get ready for the latest updates on the Lok Sabha Election 2024! Today, the third phase of voting is taking place in 93 Lok Sabha constituencies across 11 states and Union Territories. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has informed that a whopping 1,331 candidates are contesting in this phase. Stay tuned for all the action!
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah were among the early voters. Prior to casting his vote, the PM encouraged everyone participating in today’s phase to vote in large numbers. He expressed his belief that their enthusiastic involvement would undoubtedly add more energy to the elections, as mentioned in a post on X.
Today marks the conclusion of the third phase of voting, determining the fate of more than 283 Lok Sabha seats. With this, elections for over half of the total 543 Lok Sabha seats will have been completed within the first three phases.
The voting process kicked off bright and early at 7 am and will wrap up at 6 pm. As of 1 pm, the poll panel reported a voter turnout of approximately 39.92% across 93 seats in Phase 3 of polling on Tuesday. Notably, West Bengal took the lead with the highest turnout of 49.27% by 1 pm.
On Tuesday, the voting process will come to an end in Gujarat, Goa, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and Daman and Diu Union Territory. Additionally, the voting for all 28 seats in Karnataka will also be completed today, as there are 14 seats up for voting in this phase. Furthermore, the Lok Sabha Election for 11 seats in Chhattisgarh will also conclude today, with seven seats being voted upon.
In the third phase, there are seats allocated to various states. Assam has four seats, Bihar has five seats, Chhattisgarh has seven seats, Madhya Pradesh has nine seats, Maharashtra has eleven seats, Uttar Pradesh has ten seats, and West Bengal has four seats.
Today, some of the important candidates awaiting their election results are Union Home Minister Amit Shah running in Gandhinagar (Gujarat), Shivraj Singh Chouhan in Vidisha (MP), Jyotiraditya Scindia in Guna (MP), and Dimple Yadav in Mainpuri (UP), among others.
The upcoming election in Maharashtra’s Baramati seat has caught the attention of many, as Sharad Pawar’s daughter, Supriya Sule, is set to face off against his nephew Ajit Pawar’s wife, Sunetra Pawar.This contest between family members has become a closely-watched event in the third phase of the election, with many eager to see how it will unfold.
In this phase of polling, we have Union Ministers Mansukh Mandaviya from Porbandar, Parshottam Rupala from Rajkot, and Pralhad Joshi from Dharwad actively participating. They are all vying for their respective positions and are putting in their best efforts to secure victory.
During the 2019 Lok Sabha Election, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies emerged victorious in 75 out of the 93 seats that were up for grabs on Tuesday. Out of these, 71 seats were secured by the BJP alone. The INDIA bloc parties managed to secure only 8 seats. The Congress party clinched just four seats. Additionally, four seats were won by the undivided Shiv Sena, three by the undivided NCP, two by independents, and one by the AIUDF.
In the third phase of voting, a whopping 172.4 million voters are eligible to cast their votes. The poll panel has deployed approximately 1.85 million polling officials across 185,000 polling stations. It’s remarkable to note that there are more than 1.404 million registered voters who are 85 years old or above. Additionally, an impressive 39,599 voters in this phase are above the age of 100.
The initial two rounds of voting took place on April 19 and 26, with a total of 543 Lok Sabha seats up for grabs across seven phases. The final tally of votes for all seven phases of the Lok Sabha Elections is set to be revealed on June 4.
